Google has a sending limit of 2000 message to non ncsu.edu addresses per day for each user. The email addresses can be distributed among the
To:,
Cc:, and
Bcc: fields. If you need to send more messages than that, we recommend you spread them out over a few days or use an
NCSU MajorDomo mailing list. If you need help with requesting or setting up an NCSU MajorDomo list, contact your IM Agent or the EIT HelpDesk.
We recommend a Majordomo list when:
- The list is to be used somewhat regularly (not a one-time thing)
- The membership is fairly stable... doesn't completely change with each message
- The list has a recognizable purpose
- The list is large enough for creating a list to make sense... more than a few of people
- The list is over 50 people
Recommend using Gmail web interface or multiple separate mailings when:
- Sending a message to more than 100 and less than 500. When using an IMAP client (i.e. Thunderbird) the maximum number of recipients is 100. The maximum number of recipients you can send a message from the web interface is 500.
